  • Creatine for Endurance Athletes – A Game Changer

Creatine for Endurance Athletes – A Game Changer

As a writer—and more importantly, as a proud clydesdale endurance athlete who has spent years toeing start lines, nursing sore legs, and chasing marginal gains—I used to think creatine had no place in endurance sports. Like many runners and cyclists, I mentally filed creatine under the “bro supplements” from high school and collegiate lore: useful…

Trail, Ruck, or Range? How to Pick Between Garmin Fenix 8, Epix, and Tactix 8

When Garmin dropped the latest generation of Fenix, Epix, and Tactix, it felt a lot like déjà vu…same company, same family of watches, but three very different personalities. On paper they all share the same basic design and engine: multi‑band GPS, topo maps, training metrics, health tracking, a flashlight, and enough sports profiles to cover…

Surviving and Thriving: Marathon Training in Subtropic Humidity

This is a topic that I feel is largely ignored. A lot of training content out there comes with an implicit presumption of ideal conditions. We all like to assume we all have optimal training conditions, all the time, but the reality is us adventurers often find ourselves in the most extreme environments this world…

Why I Started The FieldAthlete Blog

I’m Reid Matsu—a name I chose to keep my personal story anonymous, but the experiences and lessons here are as real as the dirt, rain, sweat, and miles behind them. After years spent in the military, on wild expeditions, battling through ultra races and marathons, and living the grind of outdoor fitness, I wanted a home for the ideas and hard-won guidance I’ve collected along the way.

FieldAthlete.com isn’t about hype or trophies. It’s a place to store the gear tips, survival tricks, tough lessons, and no-nonsense training advice that actually works—shared for anyone who pushes their limits outside the gym. This blog is my way to put the best of that journey in one place, plain and palatable, so you can skip the fluff and get straight to what makes a real difference on the trail, obstacle, or anywhere the terrain gets tough.
